About Karkidaka

Karkidakam – Rejuvenative season for body and mind.

Karkidaka chikilsa helps to maintain the health of a healthy persons and to prevent the attack of diseases. It also helps the diseased persons to bring back their normal health.

Karikidaka is the last month of Malayalam calendar (followed in Kerala). According to the climatic condition of Kerala, this month is very important for Malayalees. As per Ayurveda , there are six ritus. Sisira, vasantha, Greeshma, Varsha, Sarath, Hemantha. The first three rithus are coming under the, utharayana season and the last three rithus under the dakshinayana season. In uttarayana season the temperature gradually increases from sisira and maximum temperature in greeshma. Here the strength of the human body gradually decreases and minimum strength in greeshma, there by doshic imbalance happens in human body.

In dakshinayana season, the temperature gradually decreases from varsha to hemantha. The strength of the human body is gradually increasing in this season and maximum strength in hemantha. Varsha rithu is the starting season of with uttarayana. Sudden climatic changes occurs by heavy rain in the varsha rithu. The air and water get polluted, there by early vitiated doshas again undergoes more vitiation. Body loses its immune power and there will be attack of various diseases in this season.

If we have to attain the strength from nature ( dakshinayana season ), the body and mind should be purified in the karkidaka season. This is the rejuvenative period of malayalees. Climate is very damp during this month and people are prone to various diseases. Otherwise human body is extremely sensitive to pathogens during this period. So it is very important to do the rejuvenative and preventive ayurvedic treatments. Body is very receptive to the ayurvedic treatments during this month.
Internally we are using karkidaka kanji, a special porridge prepared with many ayurvedic medicinal herbs. It helps to maintain health both physically and mentally, especially for those who are above the age of 40. It helps to restore our normal health and boost up the immunity.

Externally oil massages according to the age of the persons gives physical strength to the body. Massage therapies will improve blood circulation and increases the oxygen level in each and every tissue, thereby rejuvenate and refresh the body. Oil can be easily absorbed in to the blood stream during this season. It is the ideal treatment time for the patients who suffered from chronic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, osteo arthritis, lumbar and cervical spondylosis, depression, insomnia, anxiety etc..

The goal of the karkidaka treatment is to keep vatha, pitha and kapha in a balanced level and thereby increasing the immunity and make fit physically mentally and spiritually.
